South Carolina State Law requires that you notify the Forestry Commission prior to burning outdoors. In most cases, the law applies to burning leaves, limbs and branches that you clean up from your yard. The notification law does not apply within town or city limits as they obtain their own ordinances.

Be prepared to leave a voicemail containing:

  • Your name
  • Your telephone number
  • The specific location of the fire
  • Any other information that might be helpful.

In Anderson County, it is illegal to burn trash, furniture, tires, and any other man made objects. Burning is permissible during the hours of 9am and 3pm daily meaning you may not add to the fire after that time. You may burn natural vegetation originating from the property as long as you are following Forestry Commission guidelines found here:
