Jimmy Ray Sutherland began his distinguished firefighting career in 1975 when he joined Iva Station #10. Starting as a firefighter, his dedication and skill quickly led him to the rank of Captain in 1981. By 1984, Jimmy was elected Assistant Chief of Station #10, and in 1992, he ascended to the role of Chief, where he led the department with commitment and integrity. In 2005, while continuing his volunteer service with Iva Station #10, Jimmy was hired by the Anderson County Fire Protection Commission as a Fire Marshal. His exceptional leadership and expertise earned him a promotion to Assistant Chief of the Anderson County Fire Department in 2006, and by 2013, Jimmy was promoted to Chief, taking the helm of the entire County Fire System. Jimmy’s passion for the fire service is deeply rooted, not only in his career but also in his family’s legacy of service. With over 30 years of certifications, including Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Law Enforcement Class I, Jimmy is a seasoned professional dedicated to the safety and well-being of the community. Jimmy has been married for 35 years and is the proud father of three children—two daughters and a son—all of whom share his commitment to service by volunteering with Iva Station #10. The Sutherland family’s devotion to the Iva Community exemplifies their unwavering dedication to protecting and serving their neighbors.

Assistant Chief Moon

Brian Moon has been a dedicated member of the Anderson County Fire Department since 1991, beginning his service as a volunteer with Friendship Station #15. Throughout his time as a volunteer, Brian demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving as Captain, Assistant Chief, and eventually Chief of the station. In 2008, Brian transitioned to a full-time role at Headquarters as the County Training Officer, where he played a crucial role in enhancing the skills and preparedness of firefighters across the county. His commitment and expertise led to his promotion to Assistant Chief in 2014. Brian’s extensive qualifications include certifications as Firefighter II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, National Registry Paramedic, and South Carolina Licensed Registered Nurse. He is also a graduate of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs’ Chief Fire Officer program and has served as Past President of the association. Additionally, Brian holds a master’s degree in Public Administration, further underscoring his dedication to public service and leadership. Outside of his professional achievements, Brian is a devoted husband and father, with a daughter and son who are his pride and joy.

Captain Freeman

Joseph “Joey” Freeman began his journey in the fire service in 2003 as a Junior Firefighter with Three and Twenty Station #19. His dedication and passion for firefighting quickly became evident, and since 2008, Joey has served as an officer at the station. A proud alumnus of Pickens High School, class of 2006, Joey’s commitment to serving his community guided him toward a full-time career in the fire service in Pickens County, SC, beginning in 2011. In 2019, Joey was hired as the Training Coordinator for Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, a role that allowed him to give back to the organization that shaped his career. Today, he continues his service as a Captain and Fire Investigator for Headquarters, where his expertise and leadership are invaluable assets. Joey holds numerous fire service certifications, along with EMT and Class I Law Enforcement certifications, reflecting his comprehensive skill set and commitment to public safety. Joey resides in Easley, SC, with his wife and their son, where they enjoy being active members of the community.

Terry Vaughan is from Union County, SC, where he began his distinguished career in the fire service before relocating to Anderson County in 2010. In 2013, Terry joined Double Springs Station #5, where his leadership and dedication have been evident through his roles as Captain, Assistant Chief, and now Chief of the department. With 34 years of firefighting experience, Terry holds certifications as a Firefighter II and Hazmat Technician, underscoring his extensive expertise and commitment to public safety. In 2023, Terry brought his wealth of experience to Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, where he now serves in the Fire Marshal’s office. Terry has been married to his wife for 13 years, and together, they are proud members of the Anderson County community.

Anthony Hamby began his career with the Anderson County Fire Department in 2001, joining Pendleton Station #2, where he continues to serve with dedication today. Starting as a rookie firefighter, Anthony has held several key positions over the years, including serving as one of the former Chiefs of the station. Anthony is an Advanced EMT and holds numerous fire service certifications, reflecting his extensive knowledge and commitment to the profession. In 2015, Anthony expanded his service by joining Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, where he worked as a dispatcher and later as a dispatch supervisor. In 2024, Anthony returned to Anderson County Fire Headquarters in his current role as a Fire Marshal, bringing his wealth of experience and leadership to the position. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Anthony is a devoted husband, proud father of six children, and a loving poppa to one grandchild. His commitment to both his family and his community is a testament to his character and dedication.

Thomas “Tommy” Miller, a native of Iva, S.C., is the Recruitment, Retention, and Fire Prevention Officer for Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, a role he took on in 2021. With 34 years of dedicated volunteer service, Tommy is an active member of Grove Station #18, having previously served with Iva Station #10. Tommy is EMT certified with 18 years of experience and has also served as a law enforcement officer for 16 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and dedication to his roles. His deep commitment to public service is evident in his long-standing involvement in the fire service field, where he continues to make a positive impact.

L.W. Hunter has been an integral part of the Anderson County Fire Department since 2008, serving as an investigator. A graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Hunter brings a wealth of specialized training to his role, having completed courses with esteemed organizations such as the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, U.S. Customs Service, National Fire Academy, and South Carolina Fire Academy. Hunter is also affiliated with the International Association of Arson Investigators and the National Association of Fire Investigators, further highlighting his commitment to excellence and expertise in fire investigation.

Shanon Robinson began her firefighting journey in 1989 as a Junior Firefighter with Iva Station #10, proudly following in the footsteps of her father, Roger, as a second-generation firefighter. After completing her education, Shanon became a certified EMT Paramedic and has dedicated her entire career to serving the community she was raised in. Since 2018, Shanon has been a valued member of Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, where she initially served as a dispatcher. Her commitment and expertise have led to her current role as the Training Coordinator for the county fire system, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of firefighters. Shanon resides in Iva, SC, with her husband and their son. She is also the proud mother of two grown children, both of whom have continued the family legacy as third-generation firefighters.

Angie Bryant joined Anderson County Fire in 2005, bringing with her over 30 years of expertise in purchasing. In 2022, she expanded her role to include financial duties at Headquarters following the retirement of her partner, leveraging her extensive experience within Anderson County government since 1994, including her time with the Emergency Services and Public Safety Division. Angie holds an Associate Degree in Computer Science from Tri-County Technical College and is an Honor Graduate of Pendleton High School. She is deeply committed to her community and lives in Anderson with her husband of twenty-eight years, their wonderful son, and a cherished niece.

Zachary Arnold began his journey with the Anderson County Fire Department in 2012 as a Junior Firefighter with Three and Twenty Station #19, where he continues to serve as a dedicated Firefighter. Over the years, Zach has earned numerous fire service certifications, including Firefighter II and Fire Officer II, reflecting his commitment to excellence in the field. In 2021, Zach was hired as a Maintenance Technician at Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters, where he applies his skills and knowledge to support the department’s operations. Zach resides in Easley, SC, with his wife and their two children. Outside of his firefighting duties, he enjoys farming and actively contributing to his community.

Tim Burton began his dedicated service to Anderson County in 1994 as a Firefighter with Iva Station #10. Alongside his commitment to the fire service, Tim also had a successful career at a local rock quarry, from which he retired after 25 years. Throughout his firefighting career, Tim has pursued numerous fire service classes and obtained various certifications, staying current with the ever-evolving demands of the field. He is currently continuing his education by obtaining today’s Firefighter I certification, demonstrating his commitment to ongoing professional development. In 2022, Tim joined Anderson County Fire Department Headquarters as a Maintenance Technician, where he continues to contribute his expertise. Tim is married to his wife of 40 years, and together they have two daughters.
